The Search for TRUF, a unique and fun way to bring artists together on a regular basis to share and develop new pieces, goes beyond a traditional staged reading. Writers of all backgrounds are invited to bring their work so as to hear their words read aloud in front of an intimate and appreciative audience of fellow authors and actors. The Search for TRUF has seen new plays, short stories, scenes, musical numbers and unfinished work come alive on stage through the voices of seasoned and novice actors alike, all of whom look at the page for the very first time in that moment.
Held on the 3rd Monday of every month in a private room behind Jimmy’s #43 in the East Village, we showcase this “cold reading" format and offer the writers optional, structured feedback. The atmosphere is focused on sharing the work in a relaxed yet professionally creative setting.
With the overall intent of the evening to get everyone involved and having a good time, we cast the pieces on the spot with whomever is in attendance. Writers and creators get a chance to see and hear their work out-loud from a fresh perspective, and actors have the opportunity to get up on a stage and practice their cold reading skills. Afterwards (and at the writer's discretion) we encourage everyone to voice their thoughts, ideas, questions and general feedback.
If you have any questions, or would like to have your work read at the next "Search for TRUF" head HERE to send us an email. We hope to see you soon!
